Why Use an Externally Routed Dropper Post A dropper post is a type of bicycle seatpost that can be quickly and easily raised or lowered, allowing the rider to lower their seat for technical riding and raise it for climbing. Externally routed dropper posts are the most common type of dropper post, and they are easy to install and maintain. Pros Compatibility: Externally routed dropper posts are compatible with any frame that has a standard seatpost opening. This makes them a good option for riders who are upgrading their bikes or who are buying a new bike without a dropper post. Ease of installation: Externally routed dropper posts are relatively easy to install. The cable can be routed through the frame using a variety of methods, and there are no internal cable housings to worry about. Ease of maintenance: Externally routed dropper posts are also easy to maintain. If the cable gets dirty or frayed, it can be easily replaced. Cons Cable rub: The cable that controls the dropper post can rub against the frame or the rear tire, which can cause noise and friction. Looks: Some riders don't like the way that externally routed dropper posts look. Benefits of Using a Seatpost Dropper Post Overall, externally routed dropper posts are a good option for most riders. They are compatible with a wide range of bikes, they are easy to install and maintain, and they offer a number of performance benefits. Here are some of the benefits of using a dropper post with external routing: Improved control: A dropper post allows you to lower your seat for technical riding, which can improve your control and stability. Increased confidence: A dropper post can give you more confidence on technical trails, because you know that you can lower your seat if you need to.
