Ceramic Crown Coating This coating reflects heat into the combustion chamber and away from the piston crown, while lowering piston temperatures for increased part life. The engine can experience improved combustion and performance as a result of heat being reflected back into the fuel charge. PPM’s forged pistons skirt coating gives the dark appearance. This is a dry lubricant coating which is permanently bonded to the piston surface, as opposed to a thermal film coating which can wear off. This skirt coating provides a lubrication until the engine oil reaches operating temperature, most importantly during cold start scenarios, protecting against galling and micro-welding.
